Frequently Asked Questions

How do I choose between a VPS and a web hosting plan?

With a web hosting plan, you are provided with a storage space that has pre-installed. You can manage your websites, but you are not the administrator of the service. You can only use it for managing your projects.

Using a VPS is the next logical step up from using a web hosting plan. VPS offer a wider range of options, and more flexibility in terms of configuration, access and features (root access, Apache PHP.init). You can also install an SSL certificate and any other software you want.

How do we keep your data secure with VPS servers?

RAID: Your files are safeguarded with a RAID configuration which can withstand several drive failures. Therefore, there is a relatively small chance of data being lost. As soon as we detect any irregularies with our drives, we will exchange them immediately, thereby further decreasing the chance of failure to a very low level.

Snapshot: Using the snapshot function, you can create an image of your VPS and, if necessary, restore your VPS from this snapshot.

Backup: The backup is always made to another host machine on which the instance is not running.

Number of snapshots and backups included in each VPS package.

What is the difference between a VPS and dedicated server?

A VPS is an emulation of a computer, also known as a virtual private server, that lives within a parent server and shares resources with other virtual servers. A dedicated server is a stand-alone, physical server that does not share resources.

The advantage of a VPS is that you don’t have to worry about hardware management ------ like monitoring the status of hard disks, RAM, and CPU. They are adapted to host most types of web projects that are moderately sized.

Who are VPS solutions designed for?

Using a VPS requires basic knowledge of server administration. This knowledge is essential for managing the operating system (Linux, Windows, PrestaShop or WordPress) installed on the machine, and configuring the applications.

Why is a Snapshot not a Backup?

Using Snapshot you can preserve the VPS state. A snapshot includes the contents of the virtual machine memory, virtual machine settings, and the state of all the virtual disks. When you rollback to a snapshot, you restore the memory, virtual disks and all settings of the virtual machine to the state they were in when you took the snapshot.

You can take a snapshot and continue to use the virtual machine from that point, take another snapshot at a later point, and so on. You can rollback to the snapshot of a previous known working state of the project if the changes do not work as expected.

Since snapshots reside on the same array as the source database, they are vulnerable to failures that affect the storage array. That is why a snapshot, even though it is created very quickly, does not constitute a backup of the original data.
